There is no fortress anymore at Slottsfjell, the hill overlooking Tønsberg. The need for stone to build the city decimated the walls long ago. The ruins are still in use though. I think the viking kings would have looked at this scene in bafflement.

The ships of old sails yet again on the canal of Tønsberg. Two have been built on the pier, in the middle of the city, under open air with hand tools. One is under construction (2016). This is "Saga Oseberg", a copy of the famous ship found in a burial mound a few km from Tønsberg.
